Jhené Aiko Reunites With Kendrick Lamar as Westside Whimsy Celebrates California

Jhené Aiko has returned with her first full-length album in six years, and the project is deeply rooted in Los Angeles.

Released on September 11, 2026, Westside Whimsy is a 20-track album that Jhené has described as a love letter to her hometown. The project brings together several California artists, including Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul, Larry June, Tyga and OHMA, making it one of September’s most relevant releases for listeners following the broader West Coast music scene.

Although Jhené operates primarily in R&B, Westside Whimsy has strong connections to Los Angeles hip-hop.

The biggest of those is “So Good,” featuring Kendrick Lamar.

The collaboration reunites two artists whose history stretches back more than a decade. Jhené appeared on Kendrick’s 2010 mixtape Overly Dedicated, while Kendrick later featured on “Stay Ready (What a Life)” from her 2013 EP Sail Out. Their new song marks a direct return to that creative relationship after years without a conventional one-on-one collaboration.

Together, they turn Westside Whimsy into something closer to a cross-section of contemporary California music.

Ab-Soul appears on “Love Bomb,” one of the album’s earlier tracks.

Tyga appears on “Like, Whatever,” while Larry June joins Jhené on “Neighbors.”
