Anderson .Paak and Cordae Join Forces on New Album ‘Heavy Is the Crown’

West Coast Hip-Hop | October 2026

Anderson .Paak and Cordae have officially joined forces for their first full-length collaborative album, Heavy Is the Crown, released October 23, 2026. The 11-track project brings together two artists with different musical backgrounds, combining Anderson .Paak’s California-rooted sound and musical versatility with Cordae’s lyrical approach and appreciation for traditional hip-hop.

Released through APESHIT, Hi Level and EMPIRE, the album represents another important collaboration for .Paak, who has built a reputation as one of the most versatile artists to emerge from California’s modern music scene. For Cordae, the project provides another opportunity to work alongside an established artist while continuing to develop his own identity in hip-hop.

The release follows several years of musical chemistry between the two performers, making Heavy Is the Crown a natural progression of a partnership that has already produced popular collaborations.

A Partnership Built Over Several Years

The relationship between Anderson .Paak and Cordae goes back to 2019, when they first connected on “RNP,” a track from Cordae’s Grammy-nominated debut album, The Lost Boy.

The song introduced listeners to the chemistry between the two artists, combining Cordae’s energetic delivery with .Paak’s distinctive vocal style and musical personality.

They reunited in 2023 for “Two Tens,” followed by “Summer Drop” in 2024. Both collaborations further demonstrated their ability to move comfortably between different musical approaches without losing their individual identities.

Rather than limiting their relationship to occasional guest appearances, the two artists have now expanded that creative partnership into an entire album.

The result is a project that allows both performers to explore different subjects, experiment with production styles and bring their personalities into a shared musical space.

J. Cole, Swizz Beatz and 9th Wonder Among the Producers

One of the major talking points surrounding Heavy Is the Crown is its production lineup.

The album features contributions from several respected names in hip-hop production, including J. Cole, Swizz Beatz, 9th Wonder and Conductor Williams.

J. Cole produced “Karma Tax,” while Swizz Beatz contributed to “Godfather II.” Conductor Williams handled production on the title track, “Crown,” while 9th Wonder produced “You’re Mine.”

Production duo FNZ also contributed to “Helpless” and “I’m On,” with Hollywood Cole sharing production duties on the latter.

The range of producers gives the album an opportunity to move between different hip-hop sounds while maintaining a consistent identity.

It also places the collaboration within a wider network of artists and producers whose contributions have influenced contemporary rap.

Inside the 11-Track Album

Heavy Is the Crown contains 11 songs, running approximately 31 minutes. The tracklist includes:

  1. 58th Floor
  2. Airbender
  3. I’m On
  4. A Good Day
  5. You’re Mine
  6. Days Go By
  7. Crown
  8. Days Like This
  9. Karma Tax
  10. Helpless
  11. Godfather II

The lead single, “A Good Day,” helped introduce the project ahead of its release. Its accompanying music video featured a comedic concept starring Jennifer Freeman, reflecting the playful direction the two artists adopted for the album’s rollout.

Other tracks explore more personal subjects. “Days Go By” and “Helpless” touch on relationships, family and fatherhood, while “Karma Tax” takes a more introspective approach.

The closing track, “Godfather II,” brings the project to an energetic conclusion, with both artists trading verses over production featuring Swizz Beatz.

The album’s artwork also attracted attention for its playful homage to the 2008 comedy Step Brothers, starring Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly.

Los Angeles Celebrates the Album Release

The album’s arrival was accompanied by a three-day promotional pop-up at Complex LA, running from October 22 through October 24.

The experience gave fans an opportunity to explore exclusive merchandise, listen to the album and purchase collectible releases.

October 23 featured a special appearance by Anderson .Paak and Cordae, who met fans and signed merchandise.

The promotional activities demonstrated the importance of building an experience around a music release rather than relying exclusively on streaming platforms.

The collaboration also extended beyond Los Angeles, with additional release-week activities planned in other cities, including San Francisco and New York.

Anderson .Paak Continues to Expand His California Legacy

For Anderson .Paak, Heavy Is the Crown adds another chapter to an already diverse musical career.

Born Brandon Paak Anderson, the Oxnard, California native has developed a distinctive style that blends hip-hop, funk, soul and R&B. His ability to move between singing, rapping and live instrumentation has helped him establish a unique position in contemporary music.

His work with Bruno Mars as part of Silk Sonic brought him further mainstream recognition, while his NxWorries partnership with producer Knxwledge demonstrated his continued commitment to experimentation.

Cordae brings a different perspective to the collaboration. Known for his appreciation of traditional hip-hop lyricism, he has established himself through projects including The Lost Boy, From a Birds Eye View and The Crossroads.

Their partnership brings together two generations of musical influences and different approaches to making records.

A Collaborative Project Worth Paying Attention To

Heavy Is the Crown arrives at a time when collaborative albums continue to offer established artists opportunities to experiment outside their usual creative environments.

For .Paak, the project reinforces his reputation as a California artist comfortable working across musical genres and generations. For Cordae, it offers another opportunity to demonstrate his versatility alongside a musician with an established international audience.

The album may not follow a strictly traditional West Coast rap formula, but Anderson .Paak’s involvement gives it a meaningful connection to California’s wider musical identity.

With an accomplished production lineup, 11 tracks and a partnership developed over several years, Heavy Is the Crown is one of October’s notable hip-hop releases.

Both artists have brought their individual strengths into the collaboration, creating a project that celebrates their chemistry while leaving room for each to maintain their own musical identity.
