Lil Wayne Unleashes Star Power for ‘Tha Carter 6’, Hints at Album With His Sons

Lil Wayne is cooking up something special — and this time, he’s bringing the whole squad.

In a new Rolling Stone cover story, the rap icon gave fans a taste of what’s coming with Tha Carter 6, and it’s as wild and unpredictable as you’d expect. The album, dropping June 6, features a jaw-dropping lineup: Miley Cyrus, U2’s Bono, opera legend Andrea Bocelli, Machine Gun Kelly, dancehall king Elephant Man, and even Wayne’s 15-year-old son, Kameron.

Behind the scenes, production is handled by heavyweights like Wheezy, Wyclef Jean, and potentially Kanye West. Wyclef, in particular, seems to be steering the ship creatively, forming an informal “supergroup” with Wayne and a crew of New Orleans stars including Jon Batiste, Ledisi, Trombone Shorty, and PJ Morton, dubbed the Gumbo.

Talking about his approach, Wayne said: “This time I was like, ‘Man, what would I sound like with them?’ It’s that kinda energy.”

He also teased a potential family affair — a follow-up to Like Father, Like Son, but this time with his actual sons: Kameron, Dwayne III, and Neal, all of whom are rapping now. “That’s something I’d love to do,” he said.

Wayne also addressed the tension around Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime show in New Orleans — a performance he really wanted. He says they cleared the air with a phone call, and he holds no grudges. The NFL apparently led him to believe he had a shot at the gig, and someone even apologized for the mix-up. But now? “I don’t want it no more. They stole that feeling. It was perfect,” he admitted.

The interview also gave fans a peek into Weezy’s delightfully chaotic brain — including moments where he admitted not knowing who Sexyy Red was (despite being on a track with her), or that Watch the Throne even existed. Yes, the whole Kanye and JAY-Z collab album. “They did an album?” he asked, genuinely baffled, as his crew scrambled to jog his memory with songs like “Otis” and “N****s in Paris.”

Wayne laughed off a moment when he accidentally performed Kendrick’s Drake diss “Not Like Us,” not realizing it was a shot at his longtime collaborator. “I ain’t want my dude to be mad at me,” he joked.

On politics and the infamous Trump photo from 2020? Zero regrets. “My mama woulda been mad if I ain’t smile,” he said, brushing off the backlash. When asked about the assumption that he supports Trump, he shrugged it off with a signature Wayne response: “I don’t give a f*** about that type of s***. Tell ’em my d*** big though.”

With Tha Carter 6 on the way and a possible next-gen project with his kids, Lil Wayne proves he’s still unpredictable, still hilarious, and still one of the most fascinating minds in music.
