Diddy’s Sex Trafficking Trial Begins With Jury Selection in New York

Diddy’s federal sex trafficking trial officially kicks off today (May 5) in New York City with jury selection. The music mogul, who’s been held at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center since his September 2024 arrest, faces serious charges tied to multiple alleged incidents. He’s pleaded not guilty and maintains all encounters were consensual.

Jury selection is expected to last about a week, with opening statements set for May 12. The trial itself could run between eight to ten weeks.

Diddy recently secured the right to wear regular clothes during the proceedings—opting for suits instead of prison attire. The court granted him access to five sets of clothing and two pairs of lace-less shoes for safety.

Despite being offered a plea deal, Diddy turned it down, telling the court he preferred to go to trial, fully aware of the risk of a longer sentence if found guilty.

His attorney, Marc Agnifilo, argued that Diddy lived a consensual “swinger” lifestyle and that his actions were not criminal. Meanwhile, prosecutors are pushing to include testimony from an alleged victim who underwent an unspecified “medical procedure” connected to the case. The judge has yet to decide whether that evidence will be allowed.
