Ice Cube Signs NBA Hall of Famer Dwight Howard to BIG3 League: ‘This Is A Happy Day’

In a major move for his BIG3 basketball league, Ice Cube has secured one of the most iconic names in NBA history. On April 9, Cube revealed on Instagram that Dwight Howard, the Orlando Magic legend and eight-time NBA All-Star, will play for the Los Angeles Riot in the upcoming season of the popular three-on-three league.
Howard, who recently received his NBA Hall of Fame induction, will suit up for one final season as a professional basketball player, joining the city-based league model. The former NBA champion expressed his excitement about showcasing parts of his game that were underutilized during his NBA career. “I’m excited and can’t wait to show off the other aspects of my game that I didn’t get to show in the NBA while also helping to expand the league globally,” Howard said in a statement.

Ice Cube couldn’t contain his excitement about the signing, calling it a “happy day” for the BIG3. “On behalf of the entire league, I want to be the first one to welcome Dwight Howard to the BIG3,” Cube shared. “His legacy speaks for itself, and he still has fun playing the game. We all know that Dwight Howard can do more on the basketball court than he was able to show in the NBA. So, it’s going to be nice to see him open up his game and show his all-around skills on the court in the BIG3.”
Cube went on to add that Howard’s size, athleticism, and desire to grow the game globally make him a perfect fit for the league. “We are honored that he has chosen to bring his game and star power to the BIG3,” Cube said, adding that he looks forward to seeing Howard compete for another championship in the league.
Howard joins a talented L.A. Riot roster, which includes Jordan Crawford as a co-captain and former Laker Nick “Swaggy P” Young as the team’s coach. He will follow in the footsteps of other NBA legends who have graced the BIG3 courts, such as Allen Iverson, Joe Johnson, and Amar’e Stoudemire.
For Howard, joining the BIG3 is a fitting post-NBA chapter, and the basketball world will be watching closely to see if he can bring another championship to the city of Los Angeles.
